If you are someone who likes shows like ‘This is Us’, then you definitely will like Firefly Lane. This show revolves around the lives of two lifelong friends who meet in Firefly Lane. 30 years later they are still the best of friends but they both have their own issues and problems. It’s a very emotional story of friendship with ups and lows. It’s a feel-good show that you can binge on a long weekend.

Dhamaka – Movie

Where? Netflix Genre: Thriller

Dhamaka is a Hindi remake of the South Korean film ‘The Terror Live’ – it is directed and written by Ram Madhavani and stars Kartik Aryan in the lead role. Kartik plays the role of Arjun Pathak – a journalist who gets a call from a terrorist who threatens to blow up the Bandra – Worli sea link.

This film is indeed a dhamaka when it comes to story and acting. It somewhat shows the harsh reality of today’s media houses/ news channels which have no regard to true and meaningful journalism. The ending is a bit disappointing, but it’s still worth a watch.

Pagglait – Movie

Where? Netflix Genre: Drama, Comedy

A quirky, unique and interesting story of Sandhya played by Sanya Malhotra who becomes a widow after just 5 months of marriage. Being an arranged marriage, she wasn’t as attached to her husband. His sudden demise causes a lot of distress in the family but Sandhya finds it hard to mourn. This comes as a shock to everyone and eventually to Sandhya as well. The whole story is about self-discovery and how events unfold and situations arise in Indian households. I personally love the line “Jab ladkiyon ko akal aati ho, toh log unhe pagglait hi samajhte hai”

PS: I found the story very similar to Ram Prasad ki Tehrvi

Maid – Show

Where? Netflix Genre: Drama

I stumbled upon this on Netflix, just decided to watch it because I was bored… I had zero expectations but I really liked it. Alex is a single- mom – who runs from an abusive husband. She is homeless and becomes a maid to make ends meet for her daughter and herself. The story is about the struggles Alex goes through every day as a maid, mother and also a daughter to provide a brighter future for her child. It definitely is an emotional rollercoaster so be prepared. FYI – It is based on the memoir of Stephanie Land.

Meenakshi Sundareshwar – Movie

Where? Netflix Genre: Drama, Romance

I was really excited to see this film when I saw the trailer but it somewhat let me down when I saw the film. Meenakshi Sundareshwar is the story of a newly married couple who have to face long-distance. Initially, they think they can ace it but the distance creates a lot of rifts & misunderstandings. Overall the movie is a one-time watch, it was not as exciting as the trailer tho. The cinematography and acting are great but the forced Tamil accent made me cringe.

Haseen Dilruba – Movie

Where? Netflix Genre: Drama, Thriller

One of 2021’s most talked-about film is this thriller/mystery film written by Kanika Dhillon & directed by Vin Mathew is Haseen Dilruba – translates to beautiful beloved. It’s the story of a woman who is accused of her husband’s murder but upon investigating the case just gets twisted and twisted even more. For the first time, I could not guess the ending, unlike other Hindi films where the climax is so predictable…

So kudos to this film for hitting the target.

Where? Netflix Genre: Thriller

One show which was trending all over – Squid Game is a Korean series about a life-threatening game show. All the contestants are invited to play kids’ games, which seems like a good deal at first but upon losing, the consequences are fatal. Only one person can win – and he/she takes home a huge amount of cash prize. It is crazy, mysterious, harsh at the same time. Watch it and let us know if you liked it in the comments.

83 – Movie

Where? In the theatre Genre: Drama, Biopic

After 2 years of getting hit by the pandemic, this was the first movie I saw in the theatres after a long time and let me tell you it was worth it. The movie 83 directed by Kabir Khan is based on the 1983 Cricket World Cup. This is the year the Indian Cricket Team create history by lifting the World Cup for the first time. Ranveer Singh plays the role of the captain Kapil Dev – and trusts me he aces it! It is a feel-good movie, which makes you feel motivated and inspired in the end ( maybe a little teary-eyed also, if you are someone like me). I don’t know if it still is in the theatres but do watch it once it comes on the OTT platform. Also, the music score is A++.
